Men’s Basketball Earns 11th Conference Title

The Albright Lions men’s basketball team defeated Lebanon Valley 82-77 to win the 2021 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Men’s Basketball Championship in March. The conference championship is the first for the Lions since 2010, and the 11th overall in school history.

Junior Corey Simmons, a mathematics/secondary education major, was named the championship game’s Most Valuable Player after registering his fourth double-double of the season behind a game-high 24 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field and 12 rebounds. Senior Samuel Majekodunmi (health psychology) posted 17 points, four assists and three rebounds off the bench, while sophomore Jordan Guerrero (alpha program) tallied 15 points and four rebounds. Senior Sidney Brown (sociology) added eight points and three rebounds in the win.

Field Hockey Players Recognized for Classroom Achievements

Four Albright field hockey players earned Collegiate Scholar of Distinction honors by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association and ZAG Field Hockey this spring. The distinction recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2020-21 academic year.

Honored Lions include seniors Bailey Lehman and Sydney Baxter and first-year students Laurel Gingrich and Stephanie Hegedus.

Lehman, a business administration major, earned the Collegiate Scholar of Distinction honor for the fourth straight year. On the field, she appeared in all 19 games for the Lions and led the team while ranking eighth in the conference for points. She is a two-time All-MAC Commonwealth honorable mention. Sydney Baxter, a political science major, earned her second-straight honor. In 2019, she appeared in all 19 games and made 17 starts. She tallied four points on the year behind two goals and two assists. Gingrich (alpha major) and Hegedus (fashion merchandising) earned the honor in their first collegiate year on the team.
