Albright alumnus, André Terrel Jackson ’13, remixes visual references from history, pop culture, diasporic cultures, and his own personal experiences with family and friends in the pursuit of his creative process. Based in fiber, Jackson’s mixed-media works cause viewers to investigate and question assumptions about identity politics. By transforming, juxtaposing and adapting common materials into his works, he examines the contradictions within and forces us to think differently about concepts related to beauty, identity and race.

Although unity does not require uniformity, at Albright we need practice aimed at developing effective communication skills that are crucial to our same team identity. This session has a two-pronged goal of 1) examining key terms that will assist members of the campus community in achieving familiarization with and acquisition of a common language that fuels our conversations about race and 2) discussing our team values and the behaviors we want to project when engaging with each other.

Elizabeth Kiester, Ph.D. will be talking about ACRE research she conducted with a former student. What is the role of religious beliefs in shaping attitudes towards LGBTQ individuals? Additionally, what effect might policies have in mitigating or enhancing that effect? Their research suggests that religious beliefs and pro-equality policies act as a mechanism for what we believe and who we know which in turn have an effect on attitude formation.
