Favorite Thing About Being an Enrollment Advisor

I’m so glad that I can help students reach their educational goals! And that I have the opportunity to see them each week and share a small part of their lives, from recruitment all the way through to graduation, and often beyond. Although I’m always happy when they’ve completed their degree, I’m also a little sad because I’ll miss all the chats and laughter we’ve shared during our years together.

Advice for a Prospective Adult Student Looking to Return to School

My general advice is to find out as much as you can about all the educational opportunities available to you. Don’t just compare costs, class meeting times, and the length of the program. Compare the content and the structure. What will you learn? What will your student experience be like? What support will you have? Speak with the school’s advisors, instructors, and students. The more information you have, the better decision you can make about which program best suits your needs.

For those prospective students questioning their ability to start college, I say the following: As an adult, you’ve probably already had many successes in your life, whether as an employee or employer, a community leader, a coach, a school volunteer, or perhaps as a parent. And because of your life experiences, you have many of the skills necessary to be a successful student also. So believe in your capabilities and start your degree. As Thomas Edison said, “If we did all the things we were capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.”

Favorite Accelerated Degree Program Memory

There are so many good memories; it’s difficult to think of one favorite. But I do remember how happy we all were when a student finally completed his degree after having to take several temporary withdrawals. He had been a member of three cohorts! And I recall fondly how the 13 members of the PSY6 cohort brought a spread of food each week to class… healthy foods usually, but there seemed to be an awful lot of baked goods during stats!
