Crossing Boundaries, Passports and the American Dream
“Let all the dreamers wake the nation.”
- “Let the River Run” by Carly Simon
Passports, luggage tags, international food and
images of rivers, borders, the great wall of China and
the Andes—these were all part of the ambiance of
our recent celebration of the success of Crossing
Boundaries: The Campaign for Albright.
The evening was all about journeys completed,
and we recognized the generosity of the hundreds
of donors who have helped us to claim “Boundaries
Crossed!” as we raised $43 million and exceeded our
goal of $35 million.
The spread on pages 18-19 shows the scope of
all that we have accomplished but it cannot express
the depth of our gratitude to everyone who supported
facilities improvements and new construction, the
growth of our endowment, and growth of The Fund
for Albright, which supports daily life and learning at
Albright in countless way.
We particularly thank the donors who have
demonstrated truly magnificent generosity—our
Board of Trustees, those who made principal gifts
of a million dollars or more, and the members of
the Lifetime Giving Society who have demonstrated
exceptional generosity over time. We also thank the
members of the President’s Council, who annually support the College in significant amounts, including
our Young Alumni President’s Council members,
recent graduates who are already giving back to
their alma mater—together they gave $4.7 million
in 2007-08!
Crossing Boundaries was an apt name for this
campaign. It signified our striving to support an
education that values making connections between
people, ideas and fields of learning.
The physical improvement and new construction,
the growth of the endowment and The Fund for
Albright are all focused on expanding and broadening
the educational experience of our students.
The program for the Crossing Boundaries celebration
was designed to look like a passport. It
occurred to me that in a very real way that for our
students—especially those who are the first in their
families to attend college —their Albright education
is their passport to the American dream.
Thanks to your support, deserving Albright
students are pursuing their dreams and building
their futures. These students will serve our society
in so many ways as leaders, teachers, physicians,
ministers, entrepreneurs and artists. Your generosity
is an investment in these young people and their
dreams – and in our national and global future. Let
the dreamers wake the nation! On their behalf, I
thank you!
