Albright College Faculty Member Joins With Haiti Outreach to Raise Funds for Clean Water

Feb. 7, 2017

Reading, Pa. – An Albright College faculty member has joined with a nonprofit organization to raise funds for clean water in Haiti, a nation that remains reliant on unsanitary water sources and vulnerable to water-related illnesses, especially in the aftermath of major natural disasters.

Adam John, Ph.D., associate professor of French and Spanish, is asking Albright alumni, students, faculty members and staff to donate to Haiti Outreach’s “Adopt-a-Well” initiative. The effort seeks to raise $15,000 by May 15 to fully fund sustainable access to clean water and sanitation for a specific Haitian community.

“Sustainability through community partnerships is the core mission of Haiti Outreach,” said John. “Albright’s core mission is to challenge our students to know, engage with and understand the world, and this fundraising campaign puts the spotlight on what that means.”

John added that to date, more than $5,200 has been raised.

Haiti Outreach is a nonprofit organization that partners with the Haitian people to develop rural areas in the country. In March of 2016, Albright sent a group of students, faculty members and President Lex O. McMillan III to Haiti to collaborate on an Alternative Spring Break project with Haiti Outreach. Alumnus Neil Van Dine ’88 is the co-founder of Haiti Outreach and its in-country director.
