Alumnus Bill Carey ’80 honored

Albright alumnus Bill Carey ’80 was recognized at halftime of the Albright men’s basketball game against Arcadia on Wednesday, Jan. 29, in honor of being inducted to the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Hall of Fame last May.

Carey was a three-year captain for the Lions, and helped lead Albright to a MAC Northern Division title during the 1976-77 season. He earned Associated Press All-American honors during his junior season in 1978-79, and helped Albright advance to the NCAA Division III Quarterfinal round in 1980. Carey was a three-time First Team MAC All-Star from 1978-80, and was named the MAC Most Valuable Player and ECAC Player of the Year in 1980. He finished with 2,013 career points, which currently stands as third in Lions overall program history.

Carey was also selected in the fifth round of the 1980 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks following his collegiate career at Albright. He became a member of the Albright Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998, and was named to the MAC Men’s Basketball All-Century Team in 2013, during the MAC 100 celebration.
