EARLY FAFSA (2017-2018)

We hope you are enjoying a wonderful start to your Fall semester!  We write today to share with you new information regarding the financial aid process.  In 2015, President Barack Obama took executive action to lengthen the application period for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  This change provides families an opportunity to complete the FAFSA three months earlier than in the past, starting on October 1, 2016 for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Your 2017-2018 FAFSA will use 2015 income information.  For this reason, the great majority of our Albright families will be able to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) when completing the FAFSA.  The use of DRT can significantly reduce your paperwork burden, and we encourage all of our families to use DRT whenever it is offered as an option.

We believe an earlier FAFSA will provide our Albright families with significant benefits, including the elimination of estimated income on FAFSA, a fully functioning Data Retrieval Tool useable by almost every applicant, and, finally, the opportunity for earlier awarding and thus enhanced planning time for our families.

We hope you will join us in ushering in this new era in financial aid processing!  As always, we are here to answer concerns that you may have.
