About the Program

Since its inception in 1989, the women’s and gender studies curriculum has included courses on men and masculinities. Although the majority of courses emphasize gender in Western societies, one of the goals of this program is to provide a global context and offer students courses that define the roles and issues of women and men in non-Western societies.

Curriculum Highlights

  • Foundational course in gender and society (e.g., Introducing Sex and Gender – WGS 210)
  • Three additional Women’s and Gender Studies courses chosen in consultation with an advisor
  • Elective options across anthropology, history, literature, sociology, religion, and media that explore intersections of gender, identity, and culture
