Celebrating Lion Pride: Area Teachers and Albright at Oxford

Dear fellow Albrightians,

A few weeks ago, I celebrated the launch of our new Albright College at Oxford Creativity and Innovation academic program. Having freshly returned from participating in the program, I’d now like celebrate those who participated, taught and planned the inaugural week-long experience.

It was incredible to see teachers and administrators from Reading, Governor Mifflin and Wyomissing school districts become students during this experience. What an inspiring and engaged group of people! Their collaboration and focus on improving K-12 education is a shining model for all of us.

A sampling of the program’s speakers includes a local business professional, an Oxford entrepreneurship expert, and even an Albright alumnus who is now an Oxford professor.

Reading’s own Julia Klein, CEO of CH Briggs, from right here in northeast Reading engaged participants in discussing design-thinking through a mind mapping exercise. Alumnus Brent Mittelstadt ’10 shared some of the latest perceptions on ethics and artificial intelligence with our group of eager learners. He is director of research, as well as an associate professor and senior research fellow at Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford. And teaching us about some of the amazing things that Oxford is doing to spin out discoveries and inventions of cultural, social and economic value, Tim Hart, global innovation consultant at Oxentia, set a wonderful example of entrepreneurial spirit for everyone to follow.

An important thank you goes to organizers Boris Vilic, dean of the School of Professional Studies, and Adelle Schade, dean of pre-college and summer programs, who imagined this program and brought it to light. The value of the connection of the Albright College and Oxford names cannot be underestimated.

As one of the program participants said:

“Never underestimate …

The value of a moment of impact.

The pivotal power of adversity.

And the magic of play.”

That sums up the experience perfectly. I was honored to participate in this inaugural program and look forward to experiencing many more.

Don’t forget, tomorrow is SPIRIT DAY! Wear your Albright attire or your Albright red and share your Lion spirit on campus and on social media – #albrightlionpride.

It’s always a great day to be an Albright Lion!
