AHERA Notification – Asbestos Containing Building Materials
Albright College is required by law to notify, at least once every year, occupants and parents of students in buildings that have asbestos containing building materials (ACBM).
The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act requires schools to inspect their buildings for asbestos-containing building materials, and develop, maintain, and update an asbestos management plan. All of our buildings are inspected and the report is maintained in the Environment Health and Safety Office.
Inspections of all the college’s buildings were initially conducted to locate and address the hazard potential of any ACBM. Currently existing asbestos containing material has been labeled. Regular inspections are conducted every six months to insure materials do not deteriorate and become a safety hazard to students, faculty and staff. The amount of ACBM has been significantly reduced over the last 10 years through the college’s building renovation program.
In addition to inspections, the college has a management plan that describes the location and condition of all ACBM. A copy of the management plan is available for public inspection or review on site in the Facilities office, located on the second floor of the Camp Building.
The Albright College Asbestos Coordinator is Kera Wierzbicki (Environmental Health and Safety). Please contact her at 610-929-6616 or via email at kwierzbicki@albright.edu with any questions or for more information.
