The PMPEI Course in Community Planning

The PMPEI Course in Community Planning is a 3-session in-depth course designed for planning commissioners and local officials in how to carry out their responsibilities under the PA Municipalities Planning Code. Participants learn where the planning commission fits in local government, how it relates to the elected governing body, the process of comprehensive planning, techniques for implementing plans including land use regulations, and how to have an effective planning commission. The course includes hands-on exercises and discussions of important issues in local and county planning.
The PMPEI Course in Community Planning Course Content:

  • The Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (MPC)
  • Planning Agencies
  • The Comprehensive Plan
  • Plan Implementation
  • Effective Planning Commission
Students receive a copy of the PA Municipalities Planning Code and a Student Course Handbook

Who Should Attend:This course is intended primarily for new planning commissioners, but is also helpful for experienced planning commissioners, elected officials, zoning board members, professional planners and other individuals interested in this topic.

Program Fees

Class fee $110
CLE Credits – Attorneys will receive 9 CLE units for attendance at all three sessions. Please add $65.

Pre-registration is required

Master Planner Certification & Continuing Education Units

Participants will receive 9 hours of credit toward Master Planner certification by the Berks County Planning Commission. Attorneys are eligible for 9 Continuing Legal Education Units (CLE), and Code Enforcement Officials are eligible for 9 continuing education credits.
