Emergency Response Plan

Eight years ago, after an extensive study and search of best practices by colleges and universities around the Country, the Director developed a comprehensive Emergency Response Plan.  This Plan covers a total of twenty-eight (28) different emergency responses that could occur on our campus. These responses include:

Airplane Crash on Campus   Hostile Intruder
Bio/Chemical Terrorism   Mechanical Failure
Bomb Threat   Medical Emergencies
Campus Demonstration   Mental Health/Student
Campus-wide Evacuation   Mental Health/Employee
Chemical Radiation   Missing Person
Death of Student   Off Campus Emergency/Distant
Disease Outbreak   Power Loss
Earthquake   Protection from Abuse
Entrapment   Rape/Indecent Assault
Explosion   Sniper Fire/Shooter
Fire   Tornado
Flooding   Water Contamination/Water Emergency
Hostage Taking   Weather/Severe Conditions/Snow

During the same time period, members of the Department have been called upon to activate the plan for eight separate types of emergency situations.  As a result, the Plan has proven effective, allowing Officers to provide a quick and appropriate response.  Regular emergency response training of Officers include table top excercises which require Officers to practice appropriate responses outlined in the Emergency Response Plan.
