Eat Smart, Stay Healthy: March is National Nutrition Month!

  • Start this month by making food choices that are right for you. If you aren't sure what smart choices are, use the guidelines from the Food Guide Pyramid as help.

  • Add lots of color to your meals and snacks by choosing many fruits and vegetables. More color means more vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytochemicals. These ingredients may help decrease some cancers and lower blood pressure.

  • Make it a habit to have at least 3 servings of non-fat or low-fat dairy products every day. Calcium is needed during our entire lives - not just during childhood.

  • Use St. Patrick's Day as a time to "Go Green". Try some asparagus, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cucumbers, kiwifruit, leeks, peas, green peppers, spinach or zucchini.

  • Get physically active. Spring is in the air and provides the chance to get moving after the long, cold winter. Try a new exercise class, take a longer walk to your class or office or find an "exercise buddy". It'll help burn calories and increase muscle.
