2008 Winter Commencement

On December 13, 2008, 105 graduates—70 from the Accelerated Degree Program and 35 traditional day students—received degrees. Following a couple of short jokes that garnered laughs from the audience, Albert R. Boscov, chairman emeritus of Boscov’s Inc., gave an emotional and inspirational address about speaking out about prejudice, violence and fear. Boscov has been an advocate for Reading, Pa., and has raised the bar for community involvement and corporate citizenship with the launch of Our City Reading, a nonprofit corporation aimed at curbing the flight of residents and businesses from the city.

At the end of the ceremony, Mark Jacobson, D.O. ’78 welcomed the new graduates to the Alumni Association, where they join nearly 18,000 alumni.

1) Ada I. Neidig ’08 accepts the degrees on behalf of the class of 2008 and leads the graduates as they turn their tassels to the left.
2) Winners of the Green Lee Academic Achievement Award were honored during Commencement. Standing with Professor Ron Green, Ph.D. ’62 (third from left) are: Melinda K. Campbell, Kenneth G. Thomas Jr. and Susan L. Rhoad. Rhoad began her studies at Albright in 1967 and earned her degree with highest honors.
3) Albert R. Boscov, chairman emeritus of Boscov’s Inc., was the featured speaker at Albright’s 149th Commencement ceremony.
4) Andrew Samuelsen, Ph.D., associate professor of biology, helps Lino Malou '08 get ready to process. We featured a story about Malou, a Lost Boy of Sudan, and his journey in the summer 2007 issue of The Albright Reporter.
