At some colleges, students only get to talk with their president once
a month. At Albright, “he’s sitting right at our breakfast table!” said
Stacey Ferraro ’07, president of the Student Government Association (SGA).
In November 2006, President McMillan accompanied 12 student
leaders on a trip to Walt Disney World for the National Leadership
Conference. The annual conference provides an opportunity for
Albright student government representatives to learn about leadership
at other institutions, learn more on topics such as diversity and
marketing, and come together as a whole.
From sun up to sun down, President McMillan participated with
the students in all of the conference activities. From attending sessions for SGA advisers to riding the “Tower of Terror,” he was “game for
everything,” said Ferraro.
Having him there provided additional learning opportunities
as well, she said. “We learned a lot about him and about Albright. It
really put into perspective the running of a college…the dedication,
organization and time management skills that one has to have.”
Although President McMillan said the whole thing started with a playful, not entirely serious, comment over dinner early in the
semester, he was glad he went along. “I gained a deeper appreciation
for our students,” he said. “SGA is a witty, funny, high-spirited
group of students. They were so appreciative and really made me feel
welcome,” he said.
Rob Intile ’07, SGA treasurer, said although he had had many
interactions with the president prior to the trip, having him there was
special. “He approached the conference very open-minded, with the
thought of bringing something useful back to the College,” said Intile.“It was exemplary of his dedication to the students and Albright at
large.”
