Two Alumni Appointed to Board of Trustees
Jay A. Yoder ’81 of Westfield,
Mass., and Herman L. Rij ’66 of Bethlehem, Pa., were
appointed to the Albright
College Board of Trustees in
October 2006. Yoder was named chair of the
Investment Subcommittee. Both will serve
three-year terms on the board.
Yoder is a portfolio manager at Tuckerbrook
Alternative Investments in Marblehead,
Mass. Prior to co-founding Tuckerbrook in
2004, he spent four years as director of investments
at Smith College, six years as director
of investments at Vassar College, and was
employed for seven years in the investment
consulting division of SEI Corporation.
In July 2004, Yoder’s first book, Endowment
Management: A Practical Guide, was
published by the Association of Governing
Boards of Universities and Colleges. He
has also written more than a dozen articles
for publications such as Pensions & Investments,
Business Officer, Plan Sponsor and
Trusteeship.
Yoder is a member of the Investment
Committee of the Community Foundation
of Western Massachusetts. In June 2002, he
was chosen as the inaugural Nonprofit Investment
Officer of the Year by Foundation and
Endowment Money Management. In 1998,
he was profiled in Pensions & Investments
as “one of 25 to watch”—investment professionals
among “the powers-to-be in the next
25 years.”
Yoder earned a bachelor’s degree in business
economics summa cum laude from
Albright, a master’s in business administration
from Vanderbilt University, and holds the
Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Rij has been employed
at the investment company
Merrill Lynch since 1970.
Currently serving as first vice
president, he specializes in risk
minimization and investment management
strategies for high net worth individuals and
institutions.
In 2002, Rij was honored with the Registered
Representative Magazine: Outstanding
Brokers Award. He is a Certified Investment
Management Analyst (CIMA) and a member
of the Investment Management Consultants
Association. In 2005, he was one of 700 individuals
accredited by the Society of Professional
Administrators and Record-Keepers
(SPARK).
Rij serves as a trustee of the Diocese of
Allentown Lay Employees Pension Plan and
the Diocese of Allentown Priests Pension
Plan, and is a member of the Diocese of Allentown
Finance Council. He recently became
a member emeritus of the Merrill Lynch
National Advisory Council to Management,
upon which he served from 2002-2005.
He and his wife, Claire, are supporters of
various charities in the Lehigh Valley. Prominent
among those involvements are the Wellness
Community of Lehigh Valley and the
Easter Seals Association.
Rij earned a bachelor’s degree in economics
from Albright and a master’s in business
administration from Lehigh University.
