You Up to the Challenge? $40,000 Matching Gift Will Finish Albright's Field of Dreams |
|||
|
It's cold and raining. Albright's baseball team is sitting on old benches,
water soaked through their uniforms. They're coughing and sneezing. The other team hits a ground ball that takes a terrible hop over the
infielder. Albright finally gets up to bat and the first batter hits a
long drive. Was it a home run? No one can tell because the plastic fence
around the field is bent. This sounds like a horror story, but for years, this was a home game
Albright needs your help to complete renovations and improvements that
will bring the fields up to the standard of Albright Athletics and improve
our ability to recruit top athletes. The improvements include: new dugouts, storage facilities, new fencing,
resodding of the infields, and new backstops. Additionally, the softball
field will have a press box, batting cage and a seating area down the
left field line. A $160,000 campaign is underway to renovate these fields, and $80,000
in donated services and materials has been collected. With only $80,000
left to be raised, John D. Scholl '69 and Herbert C. Miller '61 have stepped
up to the plate and are leading the way. Scholl and Miller have agreed
to give half of it - $40,000 - if Albright's friends, parents and alumni
will give the other half. Are you up to the challenge? If you would like additional information, or would like to contribute to this project, please contact Bob Miller, director of major gifts, at 610-921-7502 or e-mail robertm@alb.edu. |
