Albright Nominated for Excellence in Foundation and Endowment Money Management
Albright College has been nominated for Small Nonprofit of the
Year in Foundation and Endowment Money Management’s
(FEMM) 2009 Nonprofit Awards for Excellence.
This nomination is an honor that reflects industry-wide
recognition of accomplishments during the challenging
past year.
Nominees and winners are selected by the editors of
Institutional Investor News’ Foundation & Endowment
Money Management (FEMM) newsletter, a monthly
publication covering investment issues of import
to foundations, endowments and others in the
non-profit investing sector.
The editors and reporters of FEMM interview leaders from across the F&E investing community, solicit input from subscribers
and other industry professionals and call on their own market intelligence when
making their selections.
Trustee Jay Yoder ’81, who serves as chair of the Albright Board of Trustees’
Investment Committee, helped Albright undergo a makeover last year, investing in
its first hedge funds and real assets. Besides cushioning the blow by investing in
alternatives, Yoder, who is head of real assets at Altius Associates, also restructured
the College’s fixed income investments to include only intermediate U.S. Treasury
bonds.
Winners of FEMM’s 2009 Nonprofit Awards for Excellence will be announced in
September.

New VP for
Advancement Named
Timothy A. McElwee, Ph.D., joined Albright in July as vice
president for advancement, overseeing the offices of alumni
relations, development and college relations.
Prior to joining Albright, McElwee served as senior director
of development for Heifer International, based in Little Rock, Ark.,
whose mission is to work with communities to end hunger and
poverty and to care for the earth, and provide families a source of
food rather than short-term relief.
Previously, he spent more than 15 years at Manchester College in Indiana, in several roles including
vice president for college advancement, director of development, the Plowshares Associate Professor
of Peace Studies and Political Science, and campus pastor. At Manchester, he led a $52 million
comprehensive campaign and all fundraising programs, including the annual fund, major gifts and
planned giving.
Earlier he was the director of the Church of the Brethren, Washington, D.C., office, as a member of
the General Board, where he administered the church’s public policy advocacy program.
McElwee holds master’s and doctoral degrees in political science, both from Purdue University, as
well as a master of divinity degree from Bethany Theological Seminary and a bachelor of arts degree
from Manchester College. He also holds postdoctoral certifications from the University of Pennsylvania’s
Wharton Institute for Research in Higher Education, Indiana University’s Center on Philanthropy
(as a certified fundraising manager), and Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education Institute
for Educational Management.
