Community Cultural Center from September 7 to October 1.

This year, the Albright Community Cultural Center (ACCC) in downtown Reading hosted more than 3,000 visitors from the Reading community. The lively cultural venue collaborated with more than 10 Berks County organizations such as the Berks Jazz Fest, Berks Women in Crisis, Berks County Intermediate Unit, African American Coalition of Reading and Penn State-Berks to present various exhibitions and events.

Martha Barnes, director of the Albright Community Cultural Center, said, “Albright College is committed to assisting and strengthening the community through innovative programs and partnerships. The Albright Community Cultural Center in downtown Reading is an excellent space and a prime location to facilitate this commitment.”

Anne Heimann: In Retrospect, an exhibition showcasing four decades of her work in a variety of mediums, will run from September 7 to October 1. As part of Albright’s Sesquicentennial Celebration, Faces of Reading II, an exhibit featuring 1,000 black and white digital portraits celebrating the diversity of the city by Albright history professor John Pankratz, will be on display from October 19 to December 10. The opening reception is Thursday, October 20 from 4-6 p.m.

Chrissy Matticola and Nick Cushman Take Top Honors at the Albright Athletics Banquet

Cross-country and track runner Chrissy Matticola ’05 and wide receiver Nick Cushman ’05 headlined the award winners at the Albright College Athletics Banquet, winning the Abram Karlip Most Outstanding Senior Female and Male Athlete awards for the 2004-05 year.

Matticola was a standout in both cross-country and track and field. In the fall she earned First-Team All-Conference honors and set a new Albright school record at 6k at the NCAA regional meet. She also set new school records this past winter for the indoor 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs.

In the outdoor season, Matticola set outdoor school records in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs, and met the NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 10,000 meters at the Penn Relays in April.

Cushman led the nation in Division III in receptions per game and receiving yards per game last fall. He was named a First Team All-American wide receiver by DIII Football.com, the AFCA and Football Gazette, and was one of 10 finalists for the Gagliardi Award, honoring the best football player in Division III.

Also an outstanding student, Cushman was named an ESPN the Magazine First Team College Division Academic All-American. He finished the 2004 season with 1,682 yards receiving, the fourth-highest total in DIII history, and set Albright and MAC single season records for receptions and receiving yards. He also holds a number of Albright career receiving records.
