Frank Falso Named Vice President of Advancement

Frank Falso has been appointed vice president of advancement. Falso has been serving as acting vice president of advancement since January. Prior to joining Albright, Falso served as a partner with McGill and Associates, a consulting firm that provides a wide range of fundraising and organizational consulting services for non-profits.

President Lex McMillan said, “Since my arrival, I have been deeply impressed with Frank’s accomplishments in such a short time and the high level of skill and experience he brings to the Advancement area. I am confident that Frank and the team he is forming will take our Advancement program to new heights and provide material assistance in helping us to realize the promise of Albright College.”

Falso also served as associate vice president for advancement at Washington & Jefferson College, where he supervised the College’s development programs for a $93 million comprehensive campaign, and as director of major and planned gift programs at Susquehanna University during a $65 million campaign. His special area of interest is in financial and estate planning and the tax aspects of charitable giving.

As vice president of advancement, Falso has leadership responsibility for the College’s development, college relations and marketing, and alumni relations programs, as well as Crossing Boundaries: The Campaign for Albright.

In addition to his leadership experiences in the charitable arena, Falso’s background includes more than 20 years of management and administration in the private sector. He has owned and operated two retail businesses in Lewisburg, Pa., as well as numerous commercial investment properties.

Falso earned a bachelor of science degree at Clarion University in speech education and a master’s degree in education at Pennsylvania State University.

New Appointments…

Karen Fitzgerald has joined Albright as executive director of development. Fitzgerald previously served as a development consultant for clients such as Corning Children’s Center, World Surgical Center and Washington & Jefferson College. She provides day-to-day oversight and management of the College’s development effort and works closely with the vice president of advancement on fundraising efforts for Crossing Boundaries: The Campaign for Albright.

Scott Adams has joined Albright as director of facilities. Adams has more than 20 years of experience including construction management, facility asset management, master facilities planning, capital renewal planning, design, engineering, construction, preventative maintenance, budgeting, safety, security, staffing, energy management, real estate and environmental compliance.

Elizabeth Woodward and Mickey Baines have been appointed administrative co-directors of the Accelerated Degree Programs, which include Accelerated Degree Start and Accelerated Degree Completion. Woodward and Baines have been serving as acting co-directors for the past year.

Putting a Face on Philanthropy

Primarily supported by her mother, a middle school art teacher, Jacquline Tome ’05, a biotechnology/Spanish major, was only able to attend Albright because of the scholarships she received. Tome expressed her gratitude to donors at the seventh annual Scholarship Luncheon in April.

The luncheon recognizes donors and connects them with the students who receive the awards. George Mack ’59, a supporter of the Kappa Scholarship, also spoke at the luncheon about the importance of supporting Albright’s scholarship program.

Ninety-five percent of traditional day students receive financial aid at Albright. For the 2004-05 academic year, the College awarded more than $16.25 million in scholarship and grant aid to support students.

Currently, there are nearly 250 endowed scholarship funds in Albright’s portfolio. Scholarship endowments work to benefit students and the College in perpetuity. Funds are often created in the name of individual class years, a company or profession or, more often, in memory of an individual.

For information on contributing to an existing endowed scholarship fund, or establishing a new endowed scholarship fund, contact Jessica Shue, director of prospect research & stewardship, at 610-921-7552 or jshue@alb.edu.
