Fitness & Wellness Center to be Expanded
Improvements Made to LifeSports Center

A newly expanded 9,000-square-foot fitness and wellness center will replace the present 2,800-square-foot facility. The new fitness and wellness center, which will provide many additional exercise options for students, will be completed by fall 2006.

“It’s important that we provide our students with the very best facilities and equipment,” said President Lex McMillan. “Improved facilities of all kinds help with the recruitment and retention of both students and faculty.”

While the new facility is being built, an alternative, expanded fitness site with new, state-of-the-art equipment will be set up in a section of the Bollman Center.

Provost David Stinebeck said, “Many colleges have recently completed or are planning fitness and wellness projects. Exercise is of growing importance to many more college students who recognize significant benefits such as weight control, stress relief and better health.”

Improvements to the LifeSports Center include the installation of eight new 7 ft x 28 ft windows; five along 13th Street and three overlooking the Stadium. Lew Nevins ’65, coordinator of the Red & White Club, said, “The new windows offer an almost skybox-like view of the Stadium. It has great potential to be a venue for receptions and parties for before and after the game, as well as other events.”
