Edwin B. Erickson III

Distinguished Alumnus Award
Given for outstanding service and accomplishments in at least one area, including church, community, state, nation, profession, academic and/or service organizations.

The Honorable Edwin B. Erickson III, Ph.D. ’60
Recently elected State Senator of Delaware County’s 26th District in a special election, Erickson previously served as executive director of Delaware County since 1992. He is also a two-term Councilman and was appointed regional administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

In addition to serving his community through elected positions, he is an active member of community groups such as the March of Dimes and Green Space Alliance of Southeastern Pennsylvania. He is the founder of the Delaware County Human Services Partnership and the Delaware County Community Action Agency. He was also an active member of the Commission on the Future’s Marketing and College/Community Relations Task Force.

Julie A. Schauer Fairman, Ph.D., RN, FAAN ’76
Assistant professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania and an associate in the Center for the Study of the History of Nursing, Fairman recently published her book, Critical Nursing: A History. She has received outstanding reviews from the Philadelphia Inquirer, on WHYY’s Radio Times in Philadelphia and in numerous industry publications.

Elected to the American Academy of Nursing, she has conducted a wide array of research on topics such as gendered domains of health care, the movement towards clinically-focused nursing education, the nurse-physician relationship and origins and conceptualizations of critical care nursing in 20th century America. She has also presented her research topics in the U.S. from Pennsylvania to California, as well as abroad, as far away as Sydney, Australia.

Nancy Dettra

Service to Alma Mater Award
Given to an alumnus(a) of Albright College for outstanding service to Alma Mater.

Nancy C. Neatock Dettra ’53
A true Albrightian, no matter how busy her life has been at given moment with career, family or volunteer work, Dettra has always managed to put Albright at the top of her priorities. She has served on the Board of Trustees since 1998. She is a class representative, was a member of the Commission on the Future’s Alumni Task Force, serves on the Alumni Association’s Executive Board, and is chair of both the Alumni Association Hospitality Committee and Traditions Committee.

Dettra is often seen attending Reading Berks Chapter Alumni Events, as well as Homecoming and Alumni Day. She is an avid supporter of the Freedman Gallery, Domino Players, and Friends of Music. This year she co-chaired the Nancy Ratajczak Shuman Scholarship Fund Drive.

Dave Tanger

Alumni Association Service Award
Given to an Albright College faculty/administration/staff member for outstanding service to Albright College.

David C. Tanger, Director of Food Service
During his 13-year tenure at Albright, Tanger has been responsible for upgrading the quality and selection of food in the dining hall for student meals, presenting the highest quality of food for special events, and creating special “themed dinners” open to the entire campus community and their families throughout the year.

He was featured in a Reading Eagle article about his work with area churches and shelters to provide leftover food from the dining hall to those in need. He is also responsible for Albright being named “Employer of the Year” by Threshold Rehabilitation Services, Inc., a nonprofit organization providing vocational training and employment to those who are mentally and physically challenged. In his spare time, he serves as advisor to Albright’s student ski club, as well as the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
