Kathy Rapp, Secretary, Alumni Relations Office, Albright College
About four years ago, Kathy Rapp’s hair was long. Very long. “I just thought that I should do something with it, and I remembered that I had heard something about Locks of Love on the Rosie O’Donnell show, so I researched it and donated.”
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
Just recently, Rapp made her second donation, although this time it was more personal.
A couple years ago a high school friend of Rapp’s was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to go through chemo. “I know how much she struggled with losing her hair,” Rapp says. “Even though I know this won’t help her personally, it will go to a child. Kids can be so cruel. I can’t imagine if I was a child and lost my hair how I would feel.”
“To think that this may make a child feel better about going to school or going outside…it’s just so cool.”
Rapp hopes to let her hair grow out again so she can make another donation. “It’s something so simple to do, but it has a huge impact,” she says.
