New Programs in International Relations,
Public Administration

International relations and public administration & policy analysis, two new programs housed within the Political Science Department, are being offered at Albright College.

International relations is a seven-course combinable concentration designed to be paired with another concentration such as economics, Spanish or history. Students are also required to complete an internship or partake in a study abroad program, and will be encouraged to develop facility in languages other than their mother tongues beyond basic language requirements.

Thomas C. Brogan, chair and professor of political science, said of the international relations program, “The faculty in the department realized, even before September 11, 2001, that the outside world is inextricably bound up with affairs of daily life in the United States. Sensitive to this interconnectedness, the department developed this new concentration.”

Public administration & policy analysis is a program of five elective courses that can be added to any major. “Within the next five years, the expectation is that a sizable portion of the federal, state and local career service professionals will retire as the post-war baby boom generation departs public service,” said Brogan. “The College is anticipating this growing labor demand, and reacting with a program that prepares students for public service.” This program also requires an internship component, and students will be encouraged to participate in service learning opportunities.
