Dr. John S. Hall, 71, emeritus professor of biology, died January
22, 2002 in Reading Hospital.
Hall was a noted mammalogist and ecologist and internationally
renowned in the science community for his research and expertise
on bats.
Hired by Albright in 1960 as an assistant biology professor,
Hall and was named emeritus professor in 1995. He continued as
an adjunct professor after his retirement.
Hall also served as head coach of the womens track club
from 1979 to 1983 and head coach of the womens cross-country
team from 1982 to 1983.
For his superb teaching, he was named outstanding educator in
Berks County by the Berks County Chamber of Commerce and received
the Christian and Mary Lindback Award for excellence in teaching
at Albright in 1975.
Since 1995, he led a terrestrial research team, comprised of
Albright professors and students, in annual studies of the Caribbean
ecological system and subtropical ecosphere in San Salvador Island,
Bahamas.
He also conducted a long-term study on the water quality of Blue
Marsh Lake and its effects on watersheds in the Middle Atlantic
Region for the Berks County Conservancy.
Hall is survived by two daughters, three sons, ten grandchildren
and two great-granddaughters.
