Marjorie Perfect and Dr. Zimon President Zimon presented the College's Lifetime Giving Society (Bronze Circle) certificate to Marjorie L. Perfect on April 10. Wife of the late Frederick H. Perfect '48, former Albright Trustee, and mother of Frederick P. Perfect '85, Mrs. Perfect has continued her husband's commitment to Albright, with particular support for enhancing scientific equipment and instrumentation. The Lifetime Giving Society recognizes alumni and friends of the College whose cumulative support of Albright exceeds $100,000 (Bronze Circle), $500,000 (Silver Circle), and Gold Circle ($1,000,000).

In Memoriam
Dr. John S. Hall, Emeritus Professor

Dr. John S. Hall, 71, emeritus professor of biology, died January 22, 2002 in Reading Hospital.

Hall was a noted mammalogist and ecologist and internationally renowned in the science community for his research and expertise on bats.

Hired by Albright in 1960 as an assistant biology professor, Hall and was named emeritus professor in 1995. He continued as an adjunct professor after his retirement.

Hall also served as head coach of the women’s track club from 1979 to 1983 and head coach of the women’s cross-country team from 1982 to 1983.

For his superb teaching, he was named outstanding educator in Berks County by the Berks County Chamber of Commerce and received the Christian and Mary Lindback Award for excellence in teaching at Albright in 1975.

Since 1995, he led a terrestrial research team, comprised of Albright professors and students, in annual studies of the Caribbean ecological system and subtropical ecosphere in San Salvador Island, Bahamas.

He also conducted a long-term study on the water quality of Blue Marsh Lake and its effects on watersheds in the Middle Atlantic Region for the Berks County Conservancy.

Hall is survived by two daughters, three sons, ten grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.


Andy Samuelsen and Kristen Woodward Faculty Tenure and Rank Advancements

At the meeting of the Board of Trustees in February, two faculty members were promoted and granted tenure.

Andrew Samuelsen, Ph.D., biology, and Kristen Woodward, M.F.A., art, have both advanced in rank from assistant professors to associate professors. They were also both granted tenure.

Rank and tenure advancements require unanimous recommendations from the vice president and dean of academic affairs, and approval of the president.
