The Albright College women’s swimming team captured their third straight MAC Championship as they finished with 413 points at the MAC Championships at Widener University. The team also ended their season with a streak of 52 wins.

Cindy Barner ’05 received a big honor as she won the David B. Eavenson, Sr. award. The award recognizes the most outstanding swimmer of the three-day meet.

Barner was a part of four first-place relays, in addition to winning the 100-yard backstroke, the 200-yard backstroke, and finishing second in the 100-yard butterfly. She also earned a NCAA ‘B’ qualifying spot in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.25.

On the final day of the championships, Albright had several swimmers finish in the top six to secure their third straight title.

In the 1650-yard freestyle, Julie Jones ’05 earned a fourth place spot with a time of 18:46.24.

Barner then won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:13.72, three seconds faster than the second place finisher.

This is the third women’s championship that Albright has won under 11th-year head coach Jenis Frederick.

“I have been very blessed with the team and staff here at Albright,” Frederick said. “Our program fosters hard work, dedication, and caring. Hopefully the future of our team will continue to be bright.”

She added, “In the water our goal is to train more national level swimmers. Out of the water our goal is to continue the fostering of the integrity, morals and values of our swimmers.”

Looking forward to next year, Heebner said, “I think it will be harder with more pressure, but we can do it again. We have a lot of depth...”
