The
Alumnus
Proud
of the years he spent as a student, administrator and faculty
member at Albright, Marlow decided to head up his 50th class
reunion in 1999.
"We had great fun. Different classes have different senses
of identity. Our class had a bunch of nuts in it!"
Marlow
says the class got off to an early start planning for a reunion
full of fun and excitement
and that it was.

In
1999, Marlow, chair of his 50th class reunion, presented the
then-president, Ellen Hurwitz with a check for $92,024 on behalf
of the class. |
But
in addition to the fun, Marlow says, "We decided, in honor
of professor emerita Annadora Shirk, we would raise enough money
to give a faculty award in her honor at Commencement. We raised
$92,000. We were really happy about that."
In fact, he says, "we only needed $50,000 to endow the award,
but we decided to go whole hog and ended up with $92,000."
Perhaps
Marlow was so enthusiastic because of his great appreciation for
the institution that gave him his education and his life.
"I
was never qualified to teach in college. I got opportunities at
Albright that I couldnt have gotten anyplace else," he
says. In fact, the year Marlow retired, he says, "Albright
gave me an honorary doctorate. It was kind of like being accepted
even though I was unqualified. That feeling of being accepted all
those years really motivated me."
