Nonprofit Management & Leadership Program
into Second Year of Programming

The Nonprofit Management and Leader-ship Program is in its second year of providing education, training, technical assistance and support to advance the quality of leadership, management and operations of local nonprofit organizations.

The program is part of The Center for Community Leadership, a partnership of Albright, the Berks County colleges and non-profit organizations serving the local public and private nonprofit community.

In order to gain a better understanding of the training and technical assistance needs facing area nonprofits, the Center surveyed nonprofit executive directors and board presidents. Sent to 200 nonprofits, the response rate was 30 percent. The results set a precedent for the type of programming the center has focused on.

Workshops held during the course of the first year included "Managing for Excellence, Leading with Vision," a workshop aimed at providing a concentrated overview of the development of dynamic boards, marketing and promoting with mission, ethics in nonprofit management and compensations and benefits.

Approximately 154 individuals took part in the first year’s programs with participants representing more than 60 nonprofit and local governmental organizations.

The 2000-2001 academic year has seen programs of a different format such as roundtable discussions which offer a way of learning by sharing experiences, a grant writing workshop, and a unique 20-hour clinic on fund development.

This year will culminate with the First Annual Nonprofit Leadership Conference on May 10, 2001.Featuring keynote speaker Sandra R. Hughes, chief knowledge officer & senior governance consultant at the National Center for Nonprofit Boards in Washington, D.C., Hughes will discuss the drivers of change in the governance of
