Albright D
o m i n o P l a y e r s Theatre Company
Receives Certificate of Merit
Albright
College received a Certificate of Merit from the Kennedy Center
American College Theatre Festival Region II. The ensemble cast was
recognized for acting in Sam Shepards Curse of the Starving
Class which was performed at Albright in November 2000. Representatives
from the American College Theatre Festival came to the College to
see the show.
The
production, directed by Lynn Morrow, professor of English and director
of theatre, explored contemporary issues while addressing itself
to the loss of the "old-fashioned" rural values of mid-America.
Morrow noted in the shows program that, "This play does
not focus on a starving class like the Oakies of the Depression,
nor does it focus on the contemporary impoverishment of the inner
city ghetto. Rather, Shepard highlights a new form of starving class,
one which we associate with the midwestern, rural American family,
that has arisen from the greed and scam artists of the late 19th
century."
Morrow
said of the honor, "It was nice for the College to have some
kind of public recognition, but I think our audiences can testify
to the ensembles merits."
Region
II is comprised of Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland,
Delaware and Washington, D.C.
