Albright Alumnus John Diamond Appointed
Interim Director of Alumni Relations

John A. Diamond, Jr. '74John A. Diamond Jr. ’74 has returned to Albright to serve as interim director of alumni relations. Diamond not only graduated from Albright, but also worked at the College for 15 years, last serving as director of admission.

Following his tenure at Albright, Diamond went to work for The College Board in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1990. At The College Board he served in several capacities including director of higher education services where he consulted annually with 600 colleges/universities on enrollment and academic issues.

He has also served as dean of enrollment management at Alvernia College and as an enrollment consultant with the University of Maine.

Diamond was awarded Albright’s prestigious Jacob Albright Award in 1990 and the Alumni Distinguished Service Award in 1988.

He holds a master of education degree from Kutztown University and has completed some coursework towards a doctorate in education.


Appointments

Christian P. Sockel, Esq., has been appointed senior director of planned and major giving. Sockel oversees and manages Albright’s major gifts and planned giving department, as well as the Red & White Club. He is also responsible for the marketing and identification of planned gifts.

Sockel previously served as director of President’s Circle and capital giving at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., where he also received his bachelor’s degree. He holds a juris doctor degree from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Ill.

Lisa R. Yerges has joined Albright as director of human resources. Yerges previously served as director of human resources and business services at The Pennsylvania State University, Delaware County campus, in Media, Pa.

She holds a master of science in administration degree from West Chester University, and received her Senior Professional in Human Resources certification from the Human Resource Certification Institute in January 2005.


Albright Football Games Broadcast on WTVE-TV51

This year, four of the Albright Lions’ football games can be seen on WTVE-TV51, live from the new Shirk Stadium. The opening game on September 24 was the first to be broadcast.

Other televised game dates include: October 8, Albright vs. Widener University (Pretzel Bowl); October 22, Albright vs. Farleigh-Dickinson University (Homecoming); and November 5, Albright vs. Lycoming College. There is a pre-game show at 12:30 p.m. prior to the 1 p.m. kick-off.

WTVE-TV51, owned by Reading Broadcasting, Incorporated, is carried on cable systems stretching from Atlantic City, N.J., to Harrisburg, Pa. WTVE’s over-the-air signal reaches some or most of three major television markets: the Philadelphia market (all of southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and northern Delaware); parts of the Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York market to the west; and the Wilkes Barre-Scranton market to the north.

Albright Woods Apartments Renovated

The Albright Woods Apartment complex, built in 1980, received a substantial facelift this summer.

All apartments were painted, giving them an updated and brighter look, and new carpeting was installed. Light fixtures throughout the apartments were replaced and the bathrooms have been completely renovated with new shower stalls, flooring, fixtures and cabinetry.

In the kitchen, new vinyl flooring and cabinets were installed.
