Albright Receives $200,000 Grant to Plan New Science Center

Senator O'Pake

Pennsylvania State Senator Michael A. O’Pake presented a check for $200,000 to Albright College to support the design and construction of a planned new Science Center for Albright. The grant, presented to Albright president Henry A. Zimon on August 25, represents funding O’Pake secured in the 2002-2003 Pennsylvania state budget.

The Science Center is currently planned to be about 80,000 square feet and estimated to cost more than $20 million. The state grant enabled the College to begin the preliminary design phase of the project. No date has been set for groundbreaking.

According to Zimon, the new building will support the College’s interdisciplinary focus, with an innovative design that supports both faculty and students in the exchange of ideas and information and instrumentation among the scientific disciplines.

Albright Ranked in Top 98 Mid-Atlantic Colleges

Albright has been named one of the Best Colleges in the Mid-Atlantic Region by The Princeton Review. It’s one of the 98 schools profiled in the very first edition of The Best Mid-Atlantic Colleges, one of five regional guidebooks that identify colleges and universities that stand out within each region and, in particular, are meant to raise awareness of many schools that may be less well-known outside of their region.

According to the guide, “Albright College knows how to put the ‘liberal arts’ in ‘liberal arts college.’”
