Bookmark and Share

Reading, Pa.- In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Albright College presents Roots of Cuban Music, a performance and discussion held Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Chapel. Both the performance and discussion are free and open to the public.

Roots of Cuban Music is a part of the Artistas y Musicos Latino Americanos (AMLA) program. AMLA was formed in 1982 by leaders of 13 salsa bands in the Philadelphia area and has grown in past years into a multicultural regional arts organization. The mission of AMLA is to promote the development and dissemination of Latin music in the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley areas, with an emphasis on youth.

Roots of Cuban Music is a part of AMLA’s Artist in Education program. This interactive, hour-long production teaches about instruments used in Cuban music and the influences of various cultures that make up the Cuban experience. The audience will see and hear the guitar, keyboard, bass congas, bongos, timbales, panderas, claves, and voice that make up the distinctive sound of Cuban music. Through the discussion the audience can gain an appreciation of multicultural Cuba, and understand the important part of the Cuban culture in the United States.

Memorial Chapel is located on the Albright College campus at 13th and Union Streets, Reading, Pa. For more information or disabled assistance please call College Relations at 610-921-7256.
