Talk on Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal Program Part of Pennsylvania’s Archives Month

Reading, Pa.- In recognition of Pennsylvania Archives Month, a lecture about Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal program and the Works Progress Administration in Pennsylvania will be held on Thursday, October 16 at 2:30 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Gingrich Library.

Presenting the lecture will be Gerry Ronning, Ph.D., assistant professor of history, and Sidney Dreese, M.A., college archivist. Ronning and Dreese will also talk about Albright graduate Willard Miller. Miller, Albright class of 1924, was an education advisor at a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp in Indiana County, Pa. The CCC was one of the most popular programs of President Roosevelt’s New Deal. From 1933 to 1942 the program helped approximately two and a half million unemployed men find work on conservation projects across America. Materials from Albright’s archives will also be highlighted.
