Russian Musicians to Present Concert October 22

Reading, Pa. -- Albright College and the Star Series will present Trio Voronezh on Friday, October 22, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in Roop Hall.  Tickets prices range from $25 - $35 and are $5 for Albright students.

Classically trained at the Conservatory in Voronezh, Russia, Trio Voronezh are experts on Russian traditional instruments. Vladimir Volokhin is a National Champion of the All-Russian Domra Competition.  A domra is a three-stringed, short-necked lute, predecessor to the balalaika. Also featured are Sergei Telechev on bajan, a chromatic-button accordion with various registers changed using the chin, and Valerie Petrushin on double-bass balalaika, a three- stringed Russian national instrument with triangular body made of fir and known for its resonant sound.

Trio Voronezh’s repertoire includes classical composers such as Bach, Vivaldi and Tchaikovsky as well as Russian folk songs and gypsy dance music
