Retired Wyomissing Doctor to Discuss the History of Evolutionary Thought

Reading, Pa.- Barton L. Smith, M.D., retired physician and 1960 Albright alumnus, will present a lecture, The History of Evolutionary Thought and Its Influence on Modern Medicine, on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at 4:30 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Campus Center, South Lounge.

Smith, who has an extensive collection of Darwin memorabilia, will discuss the life and work of Charles Darwin, theories of evolution before and after Darwin, and the application of Darwinism to medical practices.

This event is part of a year-long “Celebration of the Sciences” at Albright College. In anticipation of the Grand Opening of Albright College’s new Science Center in fall 2011, events such as lectures by prominent alumni and professionals in the sciences and exciting research presentations by faculty and students are being planned throughout the year.
