Reading, Pa.- “Pennsylvania Hands,” a photo project by Sally Wiener Grotta, will be on display in Gingrich Library from October 31 through December 1, 2010. On Wednesday, November 4 at 4 p.m. Grotta will lead a slide show and discussion about the exhibit and the people she’s met through the project. The slide show will include additional photos not on display in the exhibit. The presentation will also take place in Gingrich Library.
“Pennsylvania Hands” is Grotta's visual celebration of those individuals who keep alive Pennsylvania’s traditional trades. In this ongoing project, she creates narrative portraits of people who use their hands in traditional ways, making functional objects that are, today, typically made by machines.
The exhibit is supported by a Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts Grant from the Berks County Arts Council and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. The project is also sponsored by Hewlett-Packard.
Gingrich Library is located on the campus of Albright College at 13th and Bern Streets, Reading. For more information call 610-921-7210 or visit www.AmHands.com.
