Author of Devil in Dover to Discuss First Constitutional Test of Intelligent Design

Bookmark and Share

Reading, Pa.- Author Lauri Lebo will present a lecture, Denying Darwin: A Discussion of Faith, Science and Deception in America, on Monday, November 8, 2010, at 5:30 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Memorial Chapel. Lebo’s book will be available for sale prior to the lecture.

Lebo, author of Devil in Dover: An Insider’s Story of Dogma v. Darwin in Small-town America (2005), has been a journalist for 20 years. As part of an investigative reporting team that shed light on two forgotten civil rights–era murders, she helped to unravel the accepted history of her town. As the York Daily Record’s education reporter, she covered the Tammy Kitzmiller, et al v. Dover (Del.) Area School District intelligent design trial in 2004.

Lebo will discuss much of the behind-the-scenes elements of the first constitutional test of intelligent design in the historic First Amendment case of Kitzmiller v. Dover. She will explore both the history and future of religiously motivated attacks on evolution and education, and will relate how this issue has become so divisive, not only to the town of Dover, but to our whole nation.

This event is part of a year-long “Celebration of the Sciences” at Albright College.
