International culture at Albright is continuing with films and discussions by provocative and artistic filmmakers and directors.
- February 21 - SandraGibson & Luis Recoder in Person Sandra Gibson & Luis Recoder will present a joint program of their recent films. Their work touches on the material-physical properties of the film medium - its sculptural, painterly and tactile potential. They have presented their collaborative film performances and installations at film festivals, museums, galleries and alternative venues since 2001.
- February 28 - Eyes Without a Face (1959, 90 min.) by Georges Franju. A young woman (Christiane) wears a mask to conceal a face destroyed by an auto accident…Her father, an eminent Parisian surgeon, obsessively engages in an attempt to reconstruct that face. However, his cosmetic project is a travesty of the impulse to heal.
- March 7 - Grey Gardens (1976, 94 min.) by David & Albert Maysles, Ellen Hovde, Muffie Myer and Susan Froemke. The unbelievable but true story of Mrs. Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edie, the aunt and first cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. 'Little Edie' was an aspiring actress of striking beauty who put her New York life on hold to care for her mother - and never left her side again. Together they descended into a strange life of dependence and eccentricity.
- March 14 - Vive L'Amour (1994, 118 min.) by Tsai Ming-Liang. Vive tells of three diverse characters that are linked by chance to an empty high-rise luxury duplex-apartment in Taipei, which is used as an escape from the antiseptic outside world.
- March 28 - 25th Black Maria Film & Video Festival Featuring John Columbus. This is a (traveling) juried competition that has exhibited experimental and avant-garde short films from independent film and video makers since 1981. A screening of a selection from this year's prizewinners will be introduced by program director John Columbus.
All shows are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday nights. Films are shown in Klein Lecture Hall in the Center for the Arts on the Albright College campus at 13 th & Bern Streets, Reading. Tickets are $3 per film.
