Lecture Celebrates African-American Influence on Modern Culture Reading, Pa. –In honor of Black History Month, Nathaniel Norment, Ph.D., will present The Influence of African-Americans on Modern Culture on February 17, 2011, at 7 p.m. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will take place in Klein Lecture Hall at Albright College. Norment is chair and associate professor of African-American studies at Temple University, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in African-American Studies and African-American literature and culture. He is the director of the Center for African-American Research and Public Policy at Temple. His research focuses on four areas affecting African-Americans: criminal justice, economic development, education and health. Norment is the author of the newly published The Addison Gayle Reader, a collection of significant writings by Professor Gayle. Norment is also the editor of The African-American Studies Reader, Readings in African-American Language: Aspects, Features and Perspectives and An Introduction to African-American Studies: The Discipline and Its Dimensions. In addition, he has published in the College Language Association Journal, the Journal of Basic Writing, the Journal of Chinese Language Teachers Association, the Journal of Black Studies and the Language Quarterly. Norment earned a bachelor’s degree at Ball State University, a master’s degree at Saint Francis University, and a doctorate at Fordham University.
