Albright College Women’s Lacrosse to Host Japanese Team in International Exhibition

Feb. 27, 2017

Reading, Pa. – Albright College’s women’s lacrosse will host a team from Japan on Tuesday, March 7, in an international-friendly competition.

Believed to be the first international team hosted at Albright in decades, Meiji University will play the Lions in a match beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the College’s Shirk Stadium.

“We are just so excited to play against and meet a team from another country,” said head coach Jen Willis. “It will be interesting to see the style of play that Meiji University will display.”

After the game, the two teams will gather to share a meal, exchange gifts, and get to know each other.

“Playing teams from around the globe provides our student-athletes with a rich and engaging cultural experience that helps them grow not only as athletes, but as students and citizens of the world,” said Janice Luck, director of athletics.

Albright teams have traveled abroad for competitions. In recent years, men’s basketball has played in Germany and the Czech Republic; women’s soccer has traveled to Barbados; and the football team has played in Canada. Trips are funded through team fundraising. Per NCAA rules, teams are allowed to travel internationally for competition only once in a four-year time frame.

Albright women’s lacrosse opened its 2017 season on Feb. 22.
