Albright College Inclement Weather or Emergency Closing 2013-2014
Faculty and Staff Information

  • In the event of a weather emergency or power outage, the College will be open, staffed and following the College’s Emergency Response Plan. The Residential Life Office as well as Public Safety, Facilities and Dining Services will be ensuring that students on campus are housed, fed and safe.

  • One-Hour Delay/Late Opening. Students report to the class they would normally be in at 9 a.m., unless that class is regularly scheduled from 8-9:20 a.m. on Tuesday/Thursday, in which case the class is cancelled. Classes will end at their normal time. All offices open as soon as possible but no later than 9 a.m.
  • Two-Hour Delay/Late Opening.  Students report to the class they normally would be in at 10 am. Classes will end at their normal time. All offices open as soon as possible but no later than 10 a.m.
  •  Evening Classes Cancelled. All classes on the main campus that begin at 5 p.m. and after are cancelled.
  • Activities, athletic events or individual facilities may be closed or cancelled even when the College is open. Individual events may take place even when classes are cancelled.
  • Status may change! For example, a one-hour delay may later change to a two-hour or more delay or change to a closing. Late afternoon and evening classes may be cancelled even if the College has been open all day.
  • Faculty and Staff: Employees may be required to report even when classes are cancelled. For complete information on reporting, see the weather policy on the Intranet or in the Employee Handbook.
  • Accelerated Degree Program (ADP) locations, call the ADP Office at 1-888-253-8851 for continuously updated information about closings in all ADP locations.

How to Find Out What’s Happening

PLEASE NOTE: Text messages, broadcast voicemail, the web and the Hot Line are the first places where information is posted and updated! 

1. E2Campus Text Message. A brief text message will be sent to everyone signed up for the emergency text messaging system, E2Campus, and direct you where to find more detailed information.

2. Check your College voice mail for a broadcast message. Please note that this message will not go to students since they no longer have College land lines. From your campus phone, call Albright voice mail at x7898 to check for messages. From off-campus, dial the Albright voice mail system at 610-921-7898. Press * (star) and enter your ID (your extension number) followed by # (pound) and your password and listen to the broadcast message.

3. Check the Albright web site at www.albright.edu

4. Call the Albright Hot Line: x7800 or 610-921-7800. Information is posted and updated as necessary.

5. Listen to or watch the radio stations or television stations listed below.  Please do not rely on this as your first source of information. From the time the media are notified to the time the announcement is played, 30 minutes or more may pass – and media do not always get the information right! Check www.wfmz.com, www.readingeagle.com  or www.wgal.com.

Student Information

  • What Things Mean

    • One-Hour Delay/Late Opening.  Students report to the class they would normally be in at 9 a.m., with the exception of classes from 8-9:20 a.m. on Tuesday/Thursday, which are cancelled. Classes end at normal time. All offices open as soon as possible but no later than 9 a.m.

    • Two-Hour Delay/Late Opening.  Students report to the class they normally would be in at 10 a.m. Classes will end at their normal time. All offices open as soon as possible but no later than 10 a.m.

    • Day Classes Cancelled.  All classes on the main campus normally scheduled from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. are cancelled. Essential personnel report. Please note: Because of changing conditions, evening classes may be held even when day classes have been cancelled.

    • Evening Classes Cancelled.  All classes on the main campus normally scheduled from 5 p.m. and after are cancelled. (See ADP info below.)

    • Activities, athletic events or individual facilities may be cancelled or closed even when the College is open. Individual events may take place even when classes are cancelled.
