Winter is a quiet time for juniors
when it comes to the college admission process (except for doing well
in your classes). Come March, however, there are things that you should
be doing.
College Days & College
Nights
If your school sponsors or participates in a College Day or College Night,
you should take advantage of that opportunity. It is a wonderful way to get
a feeling for the range of higher education opportunities available.
It is not too early for you to begin
thinking about the colleges to which you will apply next year. With that
in mind, most colleges offer open houses for admitted students in the
spring, and I strongly recommend you attend them.
Testing
You should plan to take the SAT or ACT test in May or June. You may do well
enough that you won't have to take it again in the senior year, but if you
wish to do better, spring tests are good preparation for senior testing.
Check with your guidance office for registration information. (Don't procrastinate
on registration -- the registration deadline will be in March for the SAT,
and April for the ACT.)
