Orange Divider Graphic RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic software package that enables you to:

  • Organize your research
  • Create in-text citations as you write and build bibliographies in a variety of styles
  • Import references from many data sources
  • Create bibliographies in different document formats (Word, RTF, HTML, etc.)
  • Share references with other researchers

Orange Divider Graphic How can I learn to use this resource?

First you need to create an account. (Off-campus users will need to log in through the remote server and provide their library ID number to create their account.)

Then, if you are downloading the citations from the college databases, you just need to locate the "export"option in that database and manage the citations in RefWorks.  However we strongly recommend spending a few minutes in using the online help.

  • Quick Start Guide (pdf)
  • Online Tutorials.
    • Basic - How to create an account and use the software (also available in pdf handouts)
    • Advanced - How to use the advanced searching and management options (also available in pdf handouts)
  • RefShare - How to share your bibliographies with other researchers (pdf)

Orange Divider Graphic What if I still have questions?

Orange Divider Graphic What else do I need to know?

  • RefWorks does not create data, it reads data. It is only as good as the information that is passed to it from database vendors or that is entered manually by the enduser. It is still the user’s responsibility to verify that the data has imported correctly and that the references look correct.
  • The library is currently experiencing some difficulty in exporting citations directly from WilsonWeb and Science Direct into RefWorks. These problems have been reported and are being work on.
