How long can I check out the materials (circulation loan period)?

  • Books loan for 6 weeks
  • Specialty books (juvenile collection, leisure reading) and AV loan for 2 weeks
  • Reserve items loan for 2 hours to 3 days (depends on the professor's wishes)
  • Popular reading materials loan for 2 weeks and popular DVDs for 7 days
  • Reference books and journals/magazines do not loan.

What are my study options in the library?

  • Individual study carrels (all floors)
  • Tables (first floor and lobby and second floor study rooms)
  • Study rooms (second floor)
  • Stuffed chairs (first and second floor)

Where can I make photocopies?

  • DBA card photocopiers for paper copies on first and third floor
  • Cash photocopier for paper copies on first floor
  • DBA card photocopiers for microfilm/microfiche copies on first floor

How can I get an account to make photocopies cheaper than the cash prices?

  • DBA accounts can be created by depositing money in the Value Port machine in the Campus Center or contacting dba@alb.edu.

What journals do you own?

  • The printed blue List of Serials found on the first and third floors will explain the format and location of all items we own in print at the library.
  • The Journal Locator lists all electronic, print and microform journal, magazine and newspaper titles to which we have access -- it will not tell you the exact format of a print item. For that information you must check the journal title in the online catalog or the printed blue List of Serials notebook.

Can I bring food and drink to the library?

  • The library prohibits food past the lobby doors (it attracts bugs).
  • The library allows covered containers of liquids (just try not to spill).
  • Keep all drinks away from any equipment, especially the computers.

It has been awhile since I used computers for library searching -- how can I get some training n using the databases?

Do you have any maps on the layout of the library?

  • There are maps on each floor of the library.
  • There are maps in the Gingrich Guide.

How can I get a copy of the articles and books I want to see but that aren't at Albright?

  • If you left a little bit of time, you can ask us to obtain the item via Interlibrary Loan
  • If you need it ASAP, we can help you find which nearby libraries might loan it to you.

Which services are free and which things may cost me money at the library?

  • Free -- reference help, interlibrary loan services, computer printing, using library print and online resources
  • Costs -- making copies from books or microforms, keeping materials overdue (fines), losing or destroying materials

Which online databases should I be using?

remote access iconWhat does the symbol mean?

  • This symbol is a link to the remote access materials on campus and a reminder that if you are working off-campus, you need to login as a remote user in order to use the databases. If you do not use this login sequence, you will be prompted for username/password when you click on the database. If this occurs, go back to the previous webpage and click on the remote logon icon and re-log onto the databases.

Can I use any other libraries?

  • Sure, you can use all of the BerKs County Libraries and many more

Can I borrow any AV equipment for my class presentations?

  • Yes, we can loan projectors, laser pointers, screens, slide projectors and a host of other equipment for classroom use at the Reading campus. Notify your faculty member and they can request what you need from the Media Services Department (610-921-7207).

Whom should I contact if I am having a problem?

  • If you know who can help you, call the staff member you need (list is available online).
  • If unsure where to start, contact the library Reference desk staff (610-921-7211 or libraryref@alb.edu or 1-888-253-8851)
