Dorm Connections -
When you arrive
on the campus in the Fall, the first thing many of you do after
entering your dorm room is "get your computer connected". This is a
relatively painless process. Before you can access the internet on
the Albright Network, you must successfully register your computer.
Albright provides a
single wired connection to the network for you in your dorm room.
The network will provide you with access to the internet. Through
the internet you will be able to access your Albright email account,
Blackboard, IQ-Web, and any other destination that you choose.
Blackboard is a learning
management system that is used by many faculty members as a learning
tool during the course to communicate with you, provide assignments
for classes, and receive submission of work assignments from you. A
short briefing on the use of Blackboard is provided during your
orientation. IQ-Web is a
component of the Albright Campus Information System that enables you
to log in to your information. It allows you to view your grades,
"Unofficial Transcript", register for future classes, view faculty
office hours, and much more.
Getting Started -
The network port in your dorm room will have a blue card on or near
the network jack that contains instructions on how to "register
your computer" on the Albright Network.
The registration software allows Albright
Information Technology Services to identify your computer, and
determine the level of updates for both
the Operating System and the Anti-Virus Software. (Anti-Virus
Information). You are required to have an anti-virus package (we
will provide Symantec Antivirus for free, if you would like) with
updates that are no more than 2 weeks old. If at any time, your
updates become older than the permitted level, your computer will
only be able to access the site that explains what you need to do to
re-instate your access.
You will need to
plug your ethernet patch cord into the jack, turn on your computer,
and launch your internet browser (Internet Explorer for many of you)
and follow the instructions on the blue card.
If you have any problems, IT Services will have
staff in the dorms for the first few days who will be able to assist
you with this process. If you can't find an IT Services Tech, call
the
Helpdesk at x-7676 or 610-921-7676.
Help?
If you do not see the answer to your question,
you may click on the "Student Technology Services Guide". The answer
to your question will likely be in that guide. If you can't find the
answer,
you are welcome to contact the IT Services Helpdesk at 610-921-7676
or X-7676, if you are on the campus using one of the college
extensions.
