Declining Balance Accounts (Prepaid)

A Declining Balance Account (DBA) may be encoded on to your College Identification Card (I.D). This prepaid account is your passport to a variety of products and services, offering the versatility and flexibility you need during your college experience.

Use this card for purchases in the Dining Hall, Jake's Place, Jake's Java, Pepsi vending machines, catering, or for bringing a guest into any food service location. This card is also used to operate all public photocopiers and the laundry machines in all dormitories except North Hall.

There is an automated machine in the Campus Center Main Lounge called "ValuePort" that accepts cash to your DBA account. Deposits can be made in cash increments of $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills at any time during Campus Center hours.

Students can also make cash, check, debit and credit card deposits to their DBA account in the amount of $10 or more in the Student Accounts office, which is located in the Administration Building.

Balances can be obtained at the ValuePort, any dining location, in the Student Accounts office, or by swiping your card at any laundry, Pepsi or photocopier card station.

Funds added to your Declining Balance Account will be automatically transferred from one semester to the next. At the end of the academic year, contact the Student Accounts office in the Administration Building should you wish a refund.

Declining Balance Account Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Declining Balance Account a meal plan?

No, it is an adjunct to the meal plans. The DBA can be used for purchases the same way as cash is used for purchases in the Dining Hall, Jake's Place, Jake's Java, Pepsi vending machines, dormitory laundries (except North Hall) and public photocopiers.

What is the difference between Albright Bonus Dollars and the Declining Balance Account?

Albright Bonus Dollars are dining credits awarded to you by the College in an effort to provide enhanced dining flexibility. The amount of the flexible credits awarded is solely based on the meal plan you have selected. Declining Balance Accounts are dollars that are funded in advance by the student and provide, in lieu of cash, an alternative method of payment for various available services.

May I add to my Declining Balance Account?

Yes, you may make cash deposits to your DBA in $1, $5, $10, and $20 increments at the ValuePort machine at any time during Campus Center hours. You can also make cash, check, debit card or credit card deposits in increments of $10 through the Student Accounts office.

Are Albright Bonus Dollars and Declining Balance Accounts transferable or refundable?

Albright Bonus Dollars are nontransferable and nonrefundable. Declining Balance Account funds will be transferred from one semester to the next. Upon graduation or withdrawal, any remaining balance over $5 will be credited to your student account. Any excess funds in the student account balance will then be issued as a refund. Similarly, all students may request a refund at the end of an academic year by contacting Student Accounts.

Charging Privilege

Students may charge Jake's Place purchases, Jake's Java purchases or Catering Services to their student account, as long as the account is in good standing. Account status can be verified at our Student Accounts office.

Student Accounts Location and Hours of Operation*

The Student Accounts office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and is located in the Administration Building.

*Hours of operation may change based on the needs of the Albright College community.

Alternate Meal Plan Options

Students with class or work schedules or other academic or co-curricular activity that conflict may apply for our Jake's Place pass program. To qualify for the pass program, an application must be completed in the Dining Services office with a copy of your class schedule or letter from your employer attached. We will work with you in making arrangements to dine at Jake's Place that will best suit your schedule.

Catering meal exchange: If you have a group of students who want to gather together for a picnic or alternative catering arrangement, you may exchange your meal and receive a credit or equal exchange. A minimum one-week notice and prepared alphabetized list of patrons is required to effectively expedite your requests.

Boxed lunches are available for all athletic programs upon request by the Athletic Office staff. Be assured that if you are going with the team, Dining Services will provide a boxed lunch for you. Boxed lunches are provided to any individual group of students who provide a minimum one-week notice; contact our Catering office at x7606 for more information.

Several community dine-out passes are scheduled each semester for times when the College is closed. Meal plan holders staying on campus during these times can, at no charge, pick up a dine-out pass.

We invite meal plan holders to participate in the numerous theme meals that transform the Dining Hall each semester. Themes such as Hawaiian, Caribbean, New England Thanksgiving, Traditional Christmas Feast of the Seven Fishes, Mardi Gras and Beach Party have received rave reviews from students, faculty and staff. If you participate in either the 14-meal plan lunch/dinner or 20-meal plan, there is no charge for eligible meal plan holders. Non-eligible meal plan holders are invited and charged a reasonable fee.
