Commencement will be held in Gene Shirk Stadium, Rain or Shine


COMMENCEMENT LOCATION CHANGE
 
Because of severe weather, the location of Commencement (2:30 p.m.) has been changed from Shirk Stadium to Bollman Gymnasium (Schumo Center). Tickets are required because of limited seating.
 
Lunch will be held inside the dining hall located in the Campus Center following Baccalaureate.

SCHEDULE

  • Graduation ceremonies will be held on May 18, 2008, in Gene Shirk Stadium.
  • Schedule:
    • 10 a.m.      Baccalaureate Service
    • 11:30 a.m. Lunch on Kelchner Field
    • 2:30 p.m.   Commencement Ceremony

TICKETS

  • Students will be given four reserved seat tickets (on the field of the stadium) for both Commencement and Baccalaureate.  In addition, there will be ample seating in the stands of the stadium.  No tickets are needed for these seats.

  • Tickets will be available at a Senior Night on May 5, 2008, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Campus Center.  Tickets will be available at the Campus Center desk after May 5, 2008, and on Commencement Day.  Students must show identification and sign for the tickets at the time of pick-up. Students must pick up their own tickets.  No tickets are needed for the general seating in the stands.  Additional seating is available on the visitor’s side of the field.

  • The main gate of Gene Shirk Stadium at the corner of 12th and Exeter will open at 9 a.m. for Baccalaureate and reopen at 1 p.m. for Commencement.

  • We are requesting that guests be in their seats prior to 9:45 a.m. for Baccalaureate and 2:15 p.m. for Commencement.

  • All seating is on a “first come” basis.

  • In addition to the outside seating, we will also have seating available in an air- conditioned location equipped with a closed-circuit TV.

  • The ceremonies will be held “rain or shine” and all attendees should dress accordingly.  Due to the nature of the turf, flat heeled shoes are strongly recommended. In the event of severe foul weather, please see severe weather plan

PARKING AND ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE

  • There is adequate parking for parents and guests of graduates available on the streets surrounding the campus.  The Bollman Center and 13th & Union Elementary School parking lots will also be open.

  • If a member of a graduate’s family is in a wheelchair, has a hearing impairment or has other special needs, please contact Susan Miller at 610-921-7654 or smiller@alb.edu to make arrangements.  Their names must be on our list the day of Commencement to attain these special arrangements.

FAMILY GREETING

  • If there is someone in the student’s immediate family (father, mother, brother, sister) who is an Albright alumnus/alumna and would like to greet the student after receiving his or her diploma, please contact the Albright Alumni Relations Office at 610-921-7510 for further instructions.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOS

  • Arrangements have been made with a national collegiate photographic house to provide the opportunity to purchase a color photograph of your graduate taken during Commencement at the time of the diploma presentation.  Following graduation weekend, you will receive, directly from the studio, a color proof for your review and instructions for ordering single or multiple reprints of that proof.

  • There will be a designated area on the field for reserved seating guests to take pictures.

SEVERE WEATHER PLAN

  • In the event of extreme weather conditions, the ceremonies will be held in Bollman Gym.

  • If either ceremony is relocated to Bollman Gym, guests will be restricted to only those holding tickets for the field section of the stadium. However, two additional tickets that may be used if the ceremony is moved into the Bollman Gym will be included with the regular four reserved seat tickets. They will be a different color. These tickets WILL NOT be accepted at the Stadium.

  • The College will announce changes in location by 7:30 a.m. for Baccalaureate and by 12 p.m. for Commencement. 

  • How can I find out what’s happening? A special broadcast message will be posted on the College Voice Mail System, the Albright Hotline (x7800 or 610-921-7800), and on the web.

    • For faculty, staff and students, check your College voice mail from campus or home.  From your campus phone, call Albright voice mail at x7898 to check for messages. From off-campus, dial the Albright voice mail system at 610-921-7898.  Press * (star) and enter your ID (your extension number) followed by # and your password and listen to the broadcast message.

    • For families and friends off-campus, call the Albright Hotline at 610-921-7800.  Because of volume of calls, please be patient if you cannot get through immediately.

COLLEGE DINING SERVICES

Breakfast
Breakfast will be served in the Campus Center Dining Hall from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at a cost of $5 per ticket for guests and graduates. Children under 5 are free.  (No tickets will be sold on the day of graduation.)

Lunch
Lunch will be held on Kelchner Field and served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  It will be hosted by the Albright faculty.  Tickets will be available from the cashier’s window in the Administration Building from May 1, 2008-May 14, 2008.  Graduates will receive a free ticket.  The cost for guests is $8. Children under 5 are free.

CAPS AND GOWNS

Beginning May 6, caps and gowns can be secured in the Bookstore between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or at Senior Night on Monday, May 5 from 4 to 6 p.m.
