African American Society
President: Domonique Wilcher
Vice President: Jasmine Bolden
Advisors: Hal Weary
Description: The African American Society of Albright College is an elite organization on campus which enhances and promotes not only African Americans, but all people of color. With the duty to uplift the diversity on campus, all members have a strong sense of integrity and hope for unity amongst a separated world. Every other Wednesday we join together to discuss topics on diversity that one may be afraid to being up. We challenge one another, and make each other think about things one normally would not. As a whole we try to promote and engage in activities on campus that bring awareness to the topic of diversity. Everyone in our organization comes from different backgrounds and walks of life and that makes our group even more diversified and special.
Typical semester/ special events/ trips/ programs:
The African American Society meets every other Wednesday as a whole for general meetings and dicussions. In the fall semester we take a trip together to museums or events off campus. Every December we host a Kwanzaa dinner that is open to the Albright Community as a whole. Also every February we host a winter ball that is open to the entire campus community. Lastly every spring at the end of the semester we have a spring bbq. Very recently in the fall of 2008 we had a promotion for the A.A.S. in which we asked the question, “Could you live a day without a person of color?” All invitations by people of ethnic backgrounds were posted around campus to promote awareness for diversity and also promotion for the African American Society.
