Athletic Training and Sports Medicine
Mission Statement
The Athletic Training profession is recognized by the American Medical Association as an allied health profession and NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainers, ATC's, as allied health care providers. The Albright College staff of ATC's, by virtue of their academic preparation, continuing education commitments, varied athletic training experiences, and NATA professional credentials, are best qualified to provide for the health and well being of the intercollegiate athletic team participant. The sports medical care the athletic training staff and the team physician provide shall be delivered with objectivity and a conscious blend of concern for the student/athletes' current participation goals and future ability to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
The scope of Athletic Training and Sports Medicine health care shall be dependent upon and governed by the College's allocation of adequate financial and facility resources and their commitment to ensure NATA recommended ATC staffing levels. The services provided are in accordance with the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) Standards of Professional Practice as well as numerous widely accepted professional standards and guidelines commonly required of allied health care providers.
Pre-participation Exam Information
Medical health history forms and Medical Insurance Information Forms must be completed by all returning student athletes prior to each season. ALL incoming freshman or new transfer students must have a physical exam completed by their family physician and return the Physical Exam Form prior to participating in intercollegiate athletics. All above mentioned forms will be mailed to the student-athlete during the summer break. Additional copies can be downloaded by clicking links to the left.
Albright College Insurance Information
We at Albright College provide a secondary insurance plan for our student athletes. This plan is provided by Summit America Insurance Services and is an EXCESS plan. This means that any other valid and collectible insurance coverage must consider charges before this plan. In order for an excess plan to be administered other coverages must be investigated. Students should advise providers that the Albright student insurance plan is an EXCESS plan and that the institution should not be billed directly. The parents/students are financially responsible until such time as the claim is determined to be eligible under the terms and conditions of the policy.
The Athletic Accident and Athletic Related Conditions Expense benefits coverage for all full-time students participating in a covered event and will cover students from the first to the last date they are required to be on campus for participation in a covered event. A covered event only includes INTERCOLLEGIATE sport activities that are scheduled, supervised and sponsored by Albright College. It does not include independent or off season condition or "open gym" activities.
If a student is covered by an HMO, PPO or similar arrangement they must obtain pre-authorization or a referral from their managed care provider or a 50% reduction in benefits will apply. If a student requires outpatient services, it is unreasonable to ask them to go home. Therefore, they will not be penalized as long as they make an attempt to obtain a referral or pre-authorization. The date, phone number and name of person they spoke to should be submitted with the claim explaining that they could not get a referral or pre-authorization from their HMO or PPO.
