Albright College Athletics

Health Insurance

  1. All student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics are required to carry their own medical accident insurance, which provides coverage for injuries incurred while participating in intercollegiate athletics. Each student-athlete must complete an Insurance Form with all necessary information prior to participating in intercollegiate athletics. It is the student-athlete's responsibility to notify the Athletic Training Staff of any changes in personal medical insurance coverage. Albright College will not be responsible for expenses incurred if the student-athlete changes insurance plans or drops their personal medical insurance without notifying the Athletic Training Staff.

  2. If the student-athlete does not have their own medical insurance they may contact The Gable Health Center for information on short-term medical insurance. The Gable Health Center can be reached at 610 921-7532.

  3. The College provides medical insurance coverage that is excess and secondary to any other medical insurance plans that the student-athlete may have. The student-athlete must provide their own medical insurance information to all individuals providing medical services (i.e. Emergency Room, physicians). The College's secondary medical insurance coverage is limited to injuries incurred during an official supervised practice or game, team travel to and from scheduled events and supervised non-traditional season activities. Illness such as but not limited to colds, sore throats, respiratory infections, and pre-existing conditions are not covered by this policy. Additional coverage is also provided the NCAA Catastrophic Insurance plan. To view Albright College's secondary Blanket Athletic Accident Insurance Plan designed for Student Athletes click here.

  4. Any claim must first be filed with the student-athlete's personal medical insurance. If there are any balances due after payment has been made by the student-athlete's primary insurance, those bills, along with the Explanation of Benefits should be submitted to the Gable Health Center. The college and/or its athletic insurance company will consider paying the balance based on usual and customary charges and the student-athlete's compliance with the Injury Reporting Procedures, listed here.

  5. All special requirements (i.e. HMO or PPO policies, etc.) for the student-athletes' primary medical insurance must be followed. Students are required to utilize their HMO/ PPO plan when surgery is required. Failure to utilize the HMO/ PPO facilities may cause a 50% reduction in benefit coverage.
